Sinfonia Concertante, Op.111
Arthur Butterworth
Tenor horn, baritone
and brass band
This work is possibly unique in providing
both horn and baritone with a concertante role that takes account of
their individual characteristics and timbres – their distant,
subdued tone and a prevailing modal quality of expression in the music
evoking a sense of ancient rustic rites.
"… the most important piece
of transcription for brass since Elgar Howarth undertook Mussorgsky’s “Pictures
at an Exhibition” … an immense achievement, and one that
should be celebrated." (4barsrest.com)
